From the Durango Fiesta Days Committee 2013
After last year and the
misunderstanding and aggravation that arose from a different format
for Local Entry, the Durango Fiesta Days Committee has made changes
to try to be responsive to the needs of our local based contestants.
In an effort to return some of the benefits that were lost last year,
DFD has elected to sanction with the GCPRA 'Grand Canyon Pro Rodeo Association'. Let me outline what this
change will look like to our contestants.
GCPRA has allowed
Fiesta to be an Enter Twice rodeo, for all contestants. Enter
twice in any/all events. Contestants may NOT enter
twice in the same performance - they can enter two separate
performances, or one perf and slack. There will be 10
contestants in each event each night, 14 in the Barrels. Rake after
each 7. DFD will get 3 slots in each event, 4 in the Barrels - guaranteed. This means when you call and enter
through Local Entry, and you are one of the 3(4) local spots, you
will not be moved and you know when you will be up. Local entries
will be turned in to Central Entry GCPRA on Sunday evening after
Local Entry on Friday. Those spots will not be touched when Central
Entry is taken on Monday & Tuesday of the following week. If you
call in and the 3(4) slots are full for the perf you want, you can
pick a different perf, or you can call and enter through Central
Entry to try to get a spot in the perf you want. If you are a local
and enter through Local Entry on Friday, there will not be a 'Non-Member' fee assessed; however, your fees must be paid by
Sunday evening when Local Entries are turned in to Central Entry. If
fees are not paid by Sunday evening, those names will be removed
from the list, and further entry would have to be through Central
Entry. If you choose to enter through GCPRA Central Entry to get a
slot beyond the 3(4) Local Entry slots, there will be a 'Non-Member'
fee assessed.
Incentive has
returned! A #12 incentive in the Team Roping - you MUST
present a current USTRC card for verification. Barrel Racers and
Calf Ropers requesting incentive designation must go online to the
GCPRA home page, print off the application for incentive status, and
send it in to the GCPRA for approval. Contestants will have to have
this approval in hand to enter as an incentive Barrel Racer or Calf
Roper.
Contestants who need
to enter slack on Friday morning in order to fit in the rodeos they
wish to attend over the weekend may enter in slack even if the
performances are not full.
As a result of the
double entry ability, if all performances are full and slack cannot
be completed on Friday, there will be an additional overflow slack
on Sunday morning @ 9am. This slack CANNOT be
requested. Contestants - CHECK TO SEE WHEN YOU ARE UP!!!!
Team Roping -
enter twice in the Open, twice in the incentive, and twice in the
Mixed. Buckles for Open and Incentive.
We
are currently awaiting approval by the CPRA for
co-sanctioning, co-sanctioned by the NMRA. Just as soon as we have an answer, we will notify
everyone. Keep checking here and on the GCPRA homepage. Any questions - please call Cindi Brevik 970.749.4960
